Meet our founder

He started at 17 as a carpenter's apprentice. He still walks the job.

Moris Sapir has spent over 35 years in construction. It began in the family business, learning the trade with his hands, and in 1999 he founded Sapir Construction on a simple idea: run a general contracting company on quality, integrity and customer service — the three things the industry is worst at.

Under his leadership the company became a go-to contractor for homeowners in California and Washington State. We aren't a faceless corporation; we're a family-owned business built on a lifetime of expertise. On most San Jose projects, Moris or one of our lead project managers is the person sitting at your kitchen table at that first meeting.

  • A lifetime of expertise. Decades of hands-on work on every project.
  • Design-build accountability. First sketch to final walk-through, one team.
  • Total transparency. Itemized pricing and 24/7 access to your schedule.
  • Unwavering integrity. We do what we say we'll do.

Our San Jose services

High-value projects that need real project management.

We don't sub out the parts that matter. Design, structural engineering, permitting and construction all sit under one roof — which is why the timelines hold and why nobody gets to blame the other guy.

Why we do it

A remodel isn't a project. It's the room your family ends up living in.

Why San Jose homeowners choose us

Four reasons, and none of them are "quality craftsmanship."

Total transparency

Buildertrend gives you 24/7 access to your schedule, daily photo logs and change-order approvals — plus a dedicated project manager, from your phone, from anywhere.

Design-build accountability

Our in-house team carries your project from the first sketch to the final walk-through. No separate architect, and no gap between the people drawing your home and the people building it.

Licensed & insured

Fully licensed, bonded and insured, with general liability and workers' comp in place. Ask for the certificates at the consultation — you should be asking every contractor you talk to.

A lifetime of expertise

Moris has been in construction for over 35 years and founded this company in 1999. Decades of hands-on experience come to every project, from a single bathroom to new construction.

What happens next

Four steps. You always know which one you're in.

The hard part of remodeling isn't the dust — it's not knowing what comes next. Here's the whole sequence.

A short phone call

We call first to talk through the project, answer the initial questions, and confirm we're the right fit. If we're not, we'll say so on this call rather than after you've spent three weeks on it.

Free on-site consultation

We meet at your home with founder Moris Sapir or a lead project manager, look at the space, and go through your goals in detail. No charge, no obligation.

A clear, itemized proposal

Within a few days you get a comprehensive proposal covering the full scope of work with transparent, line-by-line pricing. One number at the bottom, and you can see exactly what makes it up.

Design, permits, build

Our in-house designers and engineers produce the drawings, we submit to the City of San Jose and carry it through inspections, then we build — with your schedule, daily logs and photos live in Buildertrend the entire time.

San Jose remodeling FAQs

The questions everyone asks first.

How much does a remodel cost in San Jose?

It depends entirely on size, finish level and how much structural work is involved — and any contractor who quotes you over the phone is guessing. What we can tell you at the consultation is a realistic range for your specific house. After design, you get a clear, itemized proposal with line-by-line pricing so you can see exactly where every dollar goes.

Do you handle ADU permits with the City of San Jose?

Yes. San Jose has become very ADU-friendly, but the building code and Title 24 energy requirements are strict. As a design-build firm we handle all of it — architectural drawings, engineering, plan submittal and city inspections. You never need to set foot in the permit center.

How long does an ADU or addition take to build?

Construction on a standard detached ADU or home addition usually runs 4 to 6 months once permits are issued. Design and permitting add another 2 to 4 months depending on complexity and how backed up the city is. Your timeline stays visible in Buildertrend the whole way through.

I work long hours. How do I track progress without being on site?

The process was built for exactly that. You get a client portal in Buildertrend with daily photo logs, change-order approvals, the live schedule and direct messaging with your project manager — all from your phone. You'll know what's happening whether you're at the office or traveling.

Do I need to hire an architect separately?

No. We're a design-build firm with designers and structural engineers on the team. It's usually faster and more cost-effective than hiring an architect separately, because there's no communication gap between whoever designs your home and whoever builds it.

Can I live in my home during the renovation?

For kitchen and bath remodels, yes — we set up heavy-duty dust barriers and air scrubbers to keep your living areas clean. For full-home renovations or major structural work involving the roof or flooring throughout, we usually recommend temporary housing. It's safer, and it gets the job done faster.

How long have you been in business?

Moris Sapir founded Sapir Construction in 1999, and he'd already been in the trade for years before that — over 35 years in construction all told, starting as a carpenter's apprentice at 17. We're family-owned, with offices in San Jose and Seattle.

Next step

Let's walk your house.

A short call, then an hour at your kitchen table with Moris or a lead project manager. You'll leave knowing what's possible, roughly what it costs, and whether it's worth doing. That part is free either way.
